It represents an Alsatian with a mixed-up look. It may seem confusing as much as she stands amplified of pride in front of lush vegetation, we are far from the Alsatian landscape.
And you are right, since we are not here in Alsace but beautiful and well in Martinique. The headdress of the Alsatian is adorned here with the warm colors of the island.
The red flower that the woman carries to her heart is none other than the porcelain rose. It is one of the botanical beauties I have been able to meet in Martinique. I also learned that in the 18th century, the island experienced a wave of immigration from Alsace. A hundred Alsatians came to settle at the foot of the Piton Gelé, The district where they lived was called until the middle of the 19th century «la petite Alsace».
